Advocacy needed today

| 25 Jan 2019 | 10:13

In these days when advocacy is sorely needed, it is very important that citizens make their beliefs, values and opinions known to the Congress people who represent us.
Possibly we can shape their thinking when they know what their constituents want.
To this end the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Rock Tavern takes part in a program of the UUs for Social Justice called Write Here! Write Now! (WHWN).
It is a collective action for all UU congregations who wish to participate.
We write letters once a month on an issue selected by the UU Advocacy Corps: http://uusj.net/wp1/advocacy/uusj-capitol-hill-advocacy-corps/
For January the issue is urging Congress to support new bipartisan climate resilient infrastructure legislation. We are encouraging them to take bold action to protect vulnerable communities, wildlife, and our environment.
On Sunday, January 6th, we wrote our letters, which were scanned and sent to Washington, D.C.
On Tuesday, January 8th, the UU Capitol Hill Advocacy Corps hand delivered them, along with those from UU's across the country, to Congress.
As people of faith, we believe in the inherent worth and dignity of all people and the interdependent web of all existence. Writing these letters is one way of putting our faith into action.
We invite likeminded members of the community to join us.
