A tyrannical mandate
Kathleen Sebelius recent decision to compel the Catholic Church to pay for contraceptive services – services that unequivocally contradict the life affirming moral and ethical teachings of the church can only be described as a tyrannical mandate.
Cardinal Dolan perhaps said it best, describing this decision by the Obama administration as the equivalent of an unprecedented line in the sand.
He and others correctly recognize that not only are Catholic individual liberties under attack but the individual liberties of all Americans.
Some will have no problem with this because they believe in the paternalistic society, which the current administration so unashamedly advances.
To others this may appear to be just another innocuous ruling because it doesnt affect them directly.
Consider this, that as the coercive power of government increases over the free exercise of conscience, it is all but inevitable for it to eclipse liberty.
To quote Martin Niemöller first they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew. Then they came for the Catholics and I did not speak out because I was Protestant. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.
