'A tax on plastic bags? A pox on our state.'

Reading the article in the 01/31/18 issue of the Advertiser did nothing but make me think of one word: "Un-American."
The audacity of the state to attempt to not just tell me what to use, but to also tax me for it, is pretty much the most boundary overstepping thing I have heard since "Soda Tax".
To attempt to charge me a fee, simply befause i prefer plastic bags, is undeniably insane.
    Whats next?
Being told what side of the street I can walk on?
What color eyes I can have?
A barcode tattoo on my body, to be scanned before I can enter buildings?
Yes, I sound like a conspiratorial nut, but once a line is crossed it becomes much easier to justify crossing others.
What about the hard-working, blur collar wage slaves, or the ederly, who cannnot afford to buy the reuseable bags?
Or those same people, who could not afford an extra added cost to their shopping total?
It's typical to forget these people exist, but not everyone has enough extra income to appease these kinds of demands.
Personally, I use shipping bags in all sorts of ways in my daily life. They hold my recyclable cans and bottles so that they're not on the floor. They're what I use to clean out the litter box. They line my smaller garbage cans. These bags are far from the "single use" moniker that has been attatched to them.
A tax on plastic bags? A pox on our state. Put simply, forcing me to bow to the whims of faceless people who have "the best of interests of everyone" as their shield is a deeply fashistic action.
    Where does it end?
    I'm afraid to find out.
