A gift from one Warwickian to another

Recently, I had to have some masonry work done at my home. A local (Warwick) mason came over to give me an estimate. We had a conversation, and I had mentioned that my husband recently passed away from pancreatic cancer. Also during our chat, the mason asked me about my husband and I told him all about the wonderful man I was married to for 44 years.

Somehow, the fact that my husband was a Vietnam vet also came up, and I told the mason that I had received a beautiful bronze plaque in his memory for his service to our Country.

Then, this fine gentleman, a fellow Warwickian, said to me, "Elisa, in honor of your late husband, I would like to mount this plaque on a monument to be placed on your property, as you had been thinking about doing."

He never met my husband; however, he stated that he felt he deserved this "gift" from him because he honors all veterans and especially those who served in Vietnam.

Richie Beattie is his name, and this kind human being touched my grieving heart, and I just wanted everyone to know that I was truly blessed to dial his company number and meet him.

He is a compassionate, sincere man and a wonderful family man, too, from what I gathered during our conversations.

It's true: When you least expect it, someone does something nice to take away some of the pain and grief after you lose a loved one.

This is my thanks to Richie, someone I am proud to know.
