A community vibrant with the arts is not only a cultural highlight but has been shown to have a positive impact on its economy.
The Town of Chester's purchase of the former Lycian Theatre, later The Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center, is good news and a win for the region.
The space's original owners had great vision and I thank them for their contribution.
I was fortunate through a community sponsor to bring several high profile shows there as part of The Hudson Valley Jazz Festival in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
The public heard Dave Liebman, The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, John Abercrombie, Steve Swallow, Adam Nussbaum, Wallace Roney and Buster Williams and through a private donor, Don Braden and Eliot Zigmund in 2012.
Say little of the valley's deep resource of high quality jazz talent.
I support Chester's plan to bring varied arts programming in theatre, live music, dance and other disciplines to this terrific space.
Orange County is on the verge on becoming a dynamic arts hub in New York State complimenting Bethel Woods.
