Learning from bullies

To the editor: Our parks are here for all of us to enjoy - including our children. To the bully we encountered at the Railroad Green on Aug. 3, I’d like to know if you feel good about chasing a young mother and her children out of the park simply because a toddler was being a toddler? I know that two-year olds can be loud and boisterous and yes, even annoying at times, but a public park is a place where children can (and should) be able to act their age. The world, our town included, can be noisy, chaotic and messy at times - it’s not always peaceful and quiet. I’m sorry if our children disturbed your idea of what a park should be, but they are children, who by their very nature, are not on an adult level. Maybe in the future, you can think of them as having been stricken with uncontrollable youth. Then, accept the fact that as tax payers we have as much right to make use of our town’s parks as you do and deal with it like an adult, or stay at home because we’re not going to. One more thought - thank you for giving me the opportunity to teach my children how not to act when they want something. Finger-waving and raising your voice is a toddler trait that we’re working very hard to overcome. Jessica Ward Greenwood Lake
