Junior Friends raise more than $350 for GWL Library
To the editor: It certainly was a blizzard in the Program Room at the Greenwood Lake Public Library where the Junior Friends of the Library held their annual winter fund raiser, Snow Ball 2008, on Jan. 11. Thanks to Jeremy the Snowman (Jeremy Maldonado, sixth-grader at the Greenwood Lake Middle School) for keeping things “cool” while resident rocker, DJ Robbie Whytock (a senior at Tuxedo High School), kept things “hot” with his amazing disc jockey talent. Thanks to Robbie for donating his DJ services, once again providing the local youth with a fun dance where kids of all ages can socialize in a fun and safe atmosphere at the Greenwood Lake Public Library. As usual, the Junior Friends put their best foot forward and decorated the Program Room in a flurry of snowflakes crafted by Children’s Librarian Rose-Emma Calabrese and parent Cathy Lanahan, with help from the members. The dance was a big success, raising more than $350 for the library. Tremendous thanks to member Kellie McHugh and her dad, Jerry, for manning the door, to parents Janine McHugh and Karen McNamara for their assistance with set-up, clean-up and supervision, to member Erin Fahey who supervised with utmost expertise the bake sale table, along with members Sarah Edwards and Marisa Sirico, to members Aaron Akers, Davendra Bhagwadin, Nick Korkosz and Chris McNamara who manned the beverage table, to the JFOL parents who donated baked items for the sale, and to the local students who attended the event. The success of the Snow Ball must be credited to our community members who continually come out to support not only our fund raisers but also the schools’ and local organizations’ fund raisers alike. Extra special thanks and appreciation to our local newspapers, the Greenwood Lake & West Milford News, the Straus Newspapers and the Warwick Valley Dispatch, for the news and photo coverage it permits us helping to promote our many programs and our wonderful Library.
