John Hall should take his Robin Hood mentality elsewhere'
To the editor: This letter is in response to the “My Turn” column written by Congressional Democratic candidate John Hall. Mr. Hall, I would like to respond to your diatribe as follows: Do me a favor and quit referring to an alternative to Social Security as a “scheme.” This is taken right out of the Al Gore playbook. It bothered me then, and it bothers me now. It is not a “scheme” to try and make a program better, to try to maximize a return on an individual’s investment. You see, Mr. Hall, that Social Security money that you are so enamored with is my money, and I want the best return that I can get. It you think that the paltry amount that we receive from this program even approaches what the private sector can accomplish, then you are part of the problem, not the solution. If you believe Social Security is so great, then if by some unfortunate circumstance you are elected, can you please fight for changing the Congressional retirement plan to that of Social Security? I mean if it is good enough for all of us unwashed, should it not be good enough for you? Will you pledge to try and make this happen? Yeah, right. Of course, next you have to try and get your licks in on “Bush’s War” and his so-called failure handling Katrina. I guess having your hero Clinton back would have been better. You know, do nothing when we are attacked and maybe they will go away, and playing Monday morning quarterback on the Katrina issue, with no mention of the Democratically controlled government in New Orleans just oozes with partisanship. Next your usage of anyone making over $90,000 per year having to pay their “fair share,” another stab at us “rich” folk is nauseating. I guess shelling out over 40 percent of our money isn’t enough for you. Do me and everyone else a big favor and take your Robin Hood mentality elsewhere. Those families who are fortunate to make over six figures pay the lion’s share of the taxes, and you know it. Just keep in mind: No one ever got a job from a poor guy. Jerald Berman Warwick
