To the editor: My name is Janine Sarbak and I am running for the Warwick Board of Education. In a recent newsletter my name was inadvertently left out as a candidate vying for one of the three positions. I believe the taxpayers have a right to know that there is another candidate running and what I stand for. I decided to run for this position based on a number of reasons. The most important ones are the education and safety of our children and fiscal responsibility to the community. I have two children in the school system - my son is at Sanfordville Elementary and my daughter is at the Middle School. I am an attorney currently teaching part time at Marist College. I spent almost eleven years as an assistant district attorney for Nassau County prior to moving up to Warwick. Based on my educational and my law enforcement background, I believe that I could bring a unique perspective to the Board of Education. I have worked closely with school administrators and law enforcement agencies in dealing with issues such as violence, drugs and alcohol in the schools. In addition, I believe my teaching background would provide valuable insight into developing educational programs and curriculum. Finally, like many members of the community, I am a concerned taxpayer. I am aware that the constant increase in our property taxes has all of us struggling to keep up with rising costs. I would like the opportunity to try to find other solutions for the community as a whole. As a reminder, the budget vote in Tuesday May 16th. Please let your voice be heard. Janine Sarbak Warwick
