It's the war in Iraq, stupid!
To the Editor: In response to Gerald Reiser’s absurd letter in the Nov. 10 edition of The Chronicle concerning congressman-elect John Hall’s recent win I offer the following reasons why I voted for John Hall. It’s the war in Iraq, stupid! What part of that didn’t you get? John Hall had the endorsements of every veteran’s organization except one. As a combat veteran I am appalled that our GOP leadership was allowed to drag our great nation into a quagmire in Iraq. Sue Kelly voted with the GOP 90 percent of the time and was a steadfast supporter of the GOP’s quagmire in Iraq. Sue Kelly voted to cut veterans’ benefits, cut the Veterans Administration budget by over $28 billion dollars, and close over 50 Veterans Administration medical centers, including Walter Reed, at a time when returning wounded U.S. soldiers from Iraq, and we veterans, need them the most. While she was shafting us veterans she was handing out the wealthy trillion dollar tax cuts. Shame on Sue Kelly! This is just part of why she lost the election to John Hall. John Hall is opposed to the war in Iraq, as most veterans and the majority of Americans are, and represents the working class of New York’s 19th District. We are honored to have him represent us. Good Luck Congressman-elect John Hall and good riddance to Sue Kelly! Ken Hofgesang, SSGT USAF Retired Chester
