If you stand for peace

To the editor: On Sunday July 1, Women in Black will hold a vigil in the Village of Warwick. We will meet at 1 p.m. near the corner of South Street and Railroad Avenue. We would like to invite others who grieve for lives lost in war and who believe in solutions other than war and violence to join in this vigil. That is, and has been, our only agenda for the years that we have been gathering to publicly express our stand and we sense that many others feel that same grief and the same desire for peace. Though we formed as a women’s group, we welcome men who wish to express their desire for peace. Our practice is to remain silent and simply witness our concern. Solutions will not be easy, but if the effort is not made, we will continue in this destructive cycle of violence. While there are enemies who would like to harm us, we need to consider how much harm we do to others, and to ourselves, when deciding courses of action. If you stand for peace, grief for the suffering caused by war and want to search for other methods, consider standing with us in witness. Suzanne Stage Warwick
