Help refill the town's food pantries
To the editor: Warwick Valley Food Pantries need everyone’s help right now. Both the Warwick and Florida Pantries’ stock has fallen extremely low, right before an exceptionally time of need Thanksgiving and Christmas. We forget sometimes when we see pictures of war torn and poorer than ours countries, that we still have hunger here in the United States, even here in Warwick. When the Warwick Valley Rotarians heard of the pantries’ low level of supplies, they responded by building four food collection boxes and received permission to locate them at the Warwick ShopRite, CVS, Post Office and Town Hall. The collection boxes went up Saturday, Nov. 3, and will remain until the pantries are full again. Rotary asks, when grocery shopping, buy just one item for the pantries each time, and drop it in one of the Rotary collection boxes on your way home. There is a great need for nonperishable food goods and even diapers. Items should not be frozen. For the next couple of Saturdays, Rotarians will be with the food collection box at the ShopRite on Route 94, between noon and 2 p.m., informing people of the need. Or you can call and drop off good directly to Maggie Verhagen, Rotary Food Drive chairman, by calling her at 845-9266. Thank you. Brenda Harburger for the Warwick Rotarians
