Education, not numbers
To the editor: In response to Deborah Giuliani’s letter “What’s in it for Warwick?” I have to say that I wanted to vomit when I read your letter. I’m not sure who you are, who this group of people, Residents for Fair Education are, or what planet you come from but, I can tell you something: you must be some very selfish people. What ever happened to loving thy neighbor? Why do people always feel that they can’t give without getting something in return? You’re probably the same group of people who vote down the school budget year after year. This issue isn’t about numbers. It’s about educating a group of young people. All of you may want to sit down and look at a map because you just might see that Greenwood Lake is part of the town of Warwick. That in itself should be enough to allow those students to attend Warwick high school. I’m very, very curious about the origins of the people in Residents for Fair Education. Were your children all born here in Warwick and now attend Warwick High School? Or are some of you from other areas (Bergen, Rockland, NYC)? It seems to me that if you want the number of students to stay down in Warwick you might want to put your energy into fighting against all the new houses being built around here. I am a true Warwickian born and raised as is my son and my mother. All of us are were educated in the Warwick school system and all graduated from WVHS. My parents still live here and so do my husband and I. We fish Greenwood Lake, hike the trails through that town, shop in their stores and use their beaches in the summer. Do you? I don’t have any children in Warwick schools now that my son has gone on to college but I can say that as long as I live in this town, I will always be on the side of the students. Even if they come from the other side of town: Greenwood Lake. Kids are kids and they all deserve the same opportunities. And just for the record, I’ll never vote “no” for the school budget. If you want to live in a nice town you had better expect to pay for it. If you can’t handle that, you can always go back to where ever it is you came from.
