Don't vote for the shortsighted reasons'
To the editor: The vote next week is so important for the future of Warwick - not today or tomorrow but for the future of children, adults and community. In the scheme of things, voting no because a child may not make the football or baseball team is shortsighted. A senior voting no because they heard taxes might go up in a few years is shortsighted. Overcrowding in the Warwick Valley High School is a concern but that will be sorted out if demographics are correct. The number of students will most likely stay the same for the future. Some people say the school is too large now - but face it, it will never be the small nuturing education center some of us fondly remember even if we keep the Greenwood Lake young people out. Those days are gone forever. There are several reasons for voting yes which I feel are compelling. The Greenwood Lake Elementary School is in need of upgrading and needs more programs to ready students for high school. Without the high tuition that money will directly to the school. The second is bringing the Greenwood Lake community closer to the Town of Warwick to which it belongs. It is a growing vibrant village and it has such a beautiful Lake - the new Morahan Park with the best view of the lake has wonderful concerts and a Life Guarded sandy beach. The Town Beach on the eastern side of the Lake is terrific for picnics. During hot summer evenings it’s a pleasure to eat at some of the restaurants on the Lake. And many of us row or have boats on the Lake. Having the schools merge will make us aware we are part of a larger community and have a common goal of keeping the qualities we enjoy for future generations without the animosity undercurrent that exists today. Again, don’t vote no for the shortsighted reasons. Vote yes for the future of great education and a proud community. Jo Marvel Hull Warwick
