Do “The Ride Thing”

| 15 Feb 2012 | 10:50

With the New Year just around the corner, we want to encourage adults who choose to celebrate with alcohol to do their part to help keep our roads safe by “doing the ride thing” — using alternate transportation or a designated driver. Together with Hudson Valley Restaurants and Taverns, Dana Distributors, Inc. offers a safe ride home program called Alert Cab. In 2010 Dana Distributors provided more than 100 rides from the Alert Cab Program. Through this effort, adults who may have overindulged at a local bar or restaurant can get a free cab ride home. By offering adults a safe ride, Alert Cab not only helps keep potential drunk-drivers off the roads, it also offers area bar and restaurant owners an additional way to show they care about customers’ safety. Dana Distributors for the 24th year will be offering the Alert Cab Program to any participating restaurant or tavern on Dec. 31, 2011 from 4 p.m. through 2 a.m. Please see your local participating restaurant or tavern for more details. Thanks in part to programs like Alert Cab, along with strong law enforcement and community-based alcohol education programs, drunk-driving fatalities have declined 44 percent since 1982, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Here in New York, drunk-driving fatalities have declined 62 percent since 1982. This is quite a feat as the number of vehicle miles traveled increased by 87 percent, the number of registered vehicles increased by 55 percent as well as an increase of licensed drivers by 39 percent. Dana Distributors, Inc. and Anheuser-Busch want to thank all adults who help keep our roads safe - whether through programs like Alert Cab or using a designated driver.
