County should lead on Camp LaGuardia's future
To the editor: Camp LaGuardia is up for grabs. Orange County should be leading rather than following developers. I am sure the residents of the county have ideas and should be made part of deciding the direction the property should go. One potential use would be a casino. The location is just off Route 17, (about to become an Interstate), close to a major crossroads in Harriman (the world-wide destination of Woodbury Commons), West Point, Stewart Airport, Tuxedo Ridge Skiing, etc. And only one hour from New York City (closer than other casinos). I am sure other ideas exist that the county (lawmakers and Chamber of Commerce) would be able to actively pursue, rather than waiting for developers to decide what will happen to this valuable piece of real estate.
