Correcting inaccuracies about Seward Seniors story
To the editor: Seward Senior Citizens of Florida currently has 101 members, with a potential of losing 30 plus members, who have duel membership in another senior club not including AARP. We now have a waiting list of 26 people. No one has been on our waiting list longer than one year. The three or more years quoted in your article on Friday, March 17, is merely a rumor. We accept applications and fill all vacancies on a first-come, first-serve basis. We did not have a waiting list until April 2005. Our by-laws call for 100 active members. We will be able to accommodate our entire waiting list this year, as soon as we are able to have the seniors that are double dipping choose the club of their choice. This includes at least one organizer of the new group forming in Florida, who wants to continue to belong to our club as well as the new club. This person also belongs to Warwick, and wants to triple dip, thus keeping other seniors on a waiting list. Also, officers in the Warwick club say they are in favor of seniors belonging to only one club, yet they themselves belong to our club also, double dipping, thus keeping other seniors on a waiting list. We wish to be able to serve all seniors on our waiting list, living in the Town of Warwick as well as those wishing to join our club who reside in the Town of Warwick, as soon as the double dippers are forced to choose only one club.
