    Our turn

Warwick welcomes GWL parents and students

Editor’s note: On Tuesday, Nov. 27, from 7 to 9 p.m., Warwick Valley High School will host an open house for Greenwood Lake parents and students. They must decide where they want to attend high school next year - at Warwick Valley, at Chester Academy or at George F. Baker in Tuxedo, where Greenwood Lake students have gone for three decades.

The following comes from the office of Warwick Valley School Superintendent Dr. Raymond Bryant and included the links for the 2012-13 curriculum guide/course offering (http://www.warwickvalleyschools.com/HS/curriculum/curricguide.cfm).

Richard Linkens, Warwick Valley High School principal

As principal of Warwick Valley High School, I am given the responsibility of creating and maintaining a first-rate academic program to meet the needs of all students. I am fortunate to be the instructional leader of a corps of teachers who demand as much of themselves as they do of the students they teach. As in high schools across America, it is these teachers who help principals fulfill the responsibilities of their position.

In my opinion, what makes Warwick Valley High School a special place is that the students also play an important role in helping me perform my duties. Not only do they understand the commitment we ask them to make to their academic growth, but they truly seem to embrace the responsibility they’ve been given as students in our school. It is their school and the level of success we reach as a school will be the direct result of their commitment to make this place some place special - a place where students may explore who they are and who they wish to become.

The work we do here at Warwick Valley High School is truly about helping and supporting each student through this part of his or her unique journey.

We will embrace the opportunity to do the same for our students from Greenwood Lake.

    Warwick Valley High School PTSA

The Warwick Valley High School PTSA is an active presence in the Warwick Valley High School. We are a PTSA because we welcome parents and students alike.

We’re very proud of our school and the variety of clubs, activities and athletics it has to offer. All are an added asset to the already successful academic program.

Our PTSA has great support from the principal, teachers and administration. We believe that WVHS is a unique high school that truly engages its students inside and outside the classroom. Working together, we encourage and promote leadership opportunities and community service participation. Whether applying to colleges or entering the workforce upon graduation, all this continues to enhance their academic experience for a stronger foundation and additional communication skills.

We welcome all students and families who decide to attend Warwick High School to get involved in our organization. It’s a terrific way to meet other students, parents, staff and local community members.

Together we aim to make it the best educational experience possible for all our students.

Nora Petrucci, Warwick Valley High School senior

When I walked off the bus on my first day I was nervous, just like you may be about making your decision to possibly attend WVHS next year. Having been at this school for the past four years, I can say with 110 percent confidence that I’ve made my closest friends here, and have had the chance to create a wonderful relationship with the faculty and staff.

I’ve always felt safe and comfortable talking about any issue I may have encountered with any person at the school.

In my freshman year, I believe I made one of the best decisions of my life. I joined Student Senate and through this club I made new friends and have proven myself to be a leader.

I am so grateful I was given the opportunities to blossom in Warwick Valley High School, surrounded by gracious people.

When I graduate in June, I know that I’ll take with me all my fulfilling experiences.

Warwick has provided me with everything I’ve needed and more, from doing a research paper to applying to college. I’m so happy that I’ve been able to find myself and have the freedom to be involved in any leadership or community service opportunity.

I feel Warwick gives back to all its students, giving them an educational experience and preparation for their next step toward the future.
