Castle Point Food Pantry fundraiser

To the editor: Throughout the long history of this great country, many of its sons and daughters have sacrificed much of themselves by defending this magnificent nation. Now it is our turn to help these heroic Americans and return the favor. As was stated in the Times Herald-Record, Castle Point Veteran’s Food Pantry is in dire need of help with feeding its many veterans and is being threatened with being closed by the Veteran Administration because of lack of food and funds. My name is Walter Kittle and I am the commander of the American Legion Post #1443 in Greenwood Lake, N.Y. On Sept. 29, 2006, County Executive Edward Diana proclaimed that this date is the official Veterans Memorial Day in Orange County. This date represents the single day in Orange County history that more of its sons were killed in battle than any other day. American Legion Post 1443 wants to take Orange County Veterans Memorial Day and make it also a day that we support and give back to those Orange County veterans still living and in need of our help. On this coming Sept. 29 Post 1443 will host a benefit to raise money for Castle Point Veterans Food Pantry. We are asking for everyone’s help. Please support this worthy event with either a donation of your goods, services, a monetary donation or by your attendance. There will be a barbecue from 1-6 p.m. with hamburgers, hot dogs, soda, beer, games, raffles and music. Tickets are only $15 per person with children under 12 free. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Walter/Jean at 988-1606 or Richie McKenna at 590-9032. Please let us show these great Americans that we appreciate what they did for this nation. Thank you. Walter Kittle, commander American Legion Post #1443 Greenwood Lake
