Calculating the cost of a new library

To the editor: There is enormous concern over the $9 million cost for the new Warwick library. So here is an easy way to comprehend what $9 million can buy: When leaving the village via Kings Highway on the right there are some very large homes. Each is between 3,700- to 4,000-square feet and costing around $800,000 to $1 million. If my new math is correct, we could acquire nine of these homes, providing us nearly 36,000-square feet of finished space, with some 27 bathrooms, 36 bedrooms, 9 gourmet kitchens, 9 “libraries” and living rooms and family rooms and dining rooms, all on 18 acres of beautiful landscaped property. Oops, don’t forget the 18- to 27-car garage. Stan Mocarsky Warwick
