Blessed are the peacemakers'
To the editor: This morning I read in The Advertiser that some irresponsible students at the high school, celebrating the end of the school year, wreaked havoc in the halls, caused destruction, harassed fellow students and teachers ... and delivered a depressing profile of themselves - the young people of our community. Last night, I stood vigil with the Women in Black, memorializing our 2,500 servicemen and at least 44,000 Iraqi civilians sacrificed to an invasive and greedy war. More encouraging even than the smiles and nods of passers-by was a spontaneous gathering of high school students who joined us in support of peace. It is sad when young people’s energy is wasted in negative “games” and their “fun” is dependent upon destruction. Like war. Fortunately, they are not representative of Warwick youth. Blessed are the peacemakers among them. Jude Roche Warwick
