Barry Cheney announces bid for Warwick Village Board
To the editor: I want to take this opportunity to announce my candidacy for the position of Trustee of the Village of Warwick. I have been a resident of the Village for 29 years, residing in Homestead Village for the last eight years and prior to that lived in the Pond Hill neighborhood for 21 years where my three children grew up. I believe that my combination of direct experience involved in village government for the last 25 years and my education and practice as a civil and environmental engineer provide unique credentials that will aid me in guiding the future of the village. I have been a member the Village Planning Board for the last 22 years, including six years as chairman. I have served on Village committees which were responsible for developing a new Comprehensive Master Plan in 2003, updating of the zoning ordinance and creating a Central Place Strategy (which focused on the needs and provided a vision for the downtown commercial area of our village). In the community I have been involved in the Warwick Little League as a coach, manager, commissioner and board director for more than 20 years. Currently as a board member I serve as a liaison to the village, town and school district. I served on the Warwick School District Space Needs Committee which investigated the facility needs of the District in response to the enrollment growth which resulted in the proposal to construct the Sanfordville School and a major addition to the High School. A few years later I co-chaired the citizen’s Communications Committee that assisted the District in successfully informing the community of the need for new and improved facilities. This record of involvement demonstrates the dedication I have that will allow me to effectively represent the interests of the residents of our Village. I look forward to serving you and appreciate your consideration of my candidacy. Barry J. Cheney Warwick
