Bah, humbug'
To the editor: In response to the anonymous parent who is so concerned about “excluding certain students” at the Sanfordville PTA Santa Breakfast, we say, “Bah, humbug.” As a point of information, this is a PTA-sponsored event. This means that it is a separate entity from the school. The PTA is entitled to call its function whatever it pleases. The PTA pays a fee to use the district’s building just like any other outside organization would. Therefore, this has nothing to do with separation of church and state. This is an event that is purely ones’ choice to attend or not attend. If you’d like your child to have a visit with Santa, then attend the breakfast. Quite simply, if you are offended, don’t go. You are welcome to sponsor a breakfast of your own to include those whom you feel are being excluded just as the PTA sponsors the Santa Breakfast. Anyone who reads a negative connotation into something as innocent as Santa Claus at a breakfast has too much time on their hands. Perhaps they should focus on something more meaningful during the holiday season such as being an advocate for the less fortunate and needy members of our community. Mary Luthin Claire Riley Warwick
