Back off, speeders

To the editor: It’s been a long time since I had to read the driver’s learning manual, but as far as I can remember the speed limit used to mean that that was the maximum speed you could go. Today it seems like it means, “Your minimum speed better be what is posted, because the guy behind you has the right to at least go the posted speed. And WATCH OUT if you are in the way.” There is no courtesy on our roads. I also learned that you should keep at least one car length behind for every 10 miles per hour. Isn’t there any laws to prevent drivers from following to close. Whether the speed limit is 55, 45 or 35 on a road, if someone is five feet behind you, causing you to speed up or focus behind you instead of in front of you, this has got to increase the probability of an accident. It’s rude. Back off. You are causing the quality of life to go down. Whether you are five feet behind or 50 feet behind, you won’t get there any earlier. Dan O’Brien Warwick
