‘Another happy day in fishing paradise'

To the editor: The Warwick Valley Rod and Gun Club has a great fish story to tell. Early on a warm, sunny Saturday, May 5, more than 250 Warwick children ages 5 to 14 happily lined the falls and stream on Baird’s Farm, anxiously seeking 500 swiftly moving and biting trout. All the children held firmly their fishing rods and cast their lines with bait in a sporting and salivating manner. “I got one, I got one!” was the exciting litany of the day. Meanwhile, back on dry land, the Warwick Rod and Gun committee members observed the safety instructions, gave encouragement and produced refreshments and prizes to all. Many of the fish-stories grew bigger as the families drove home with their catch. The Warwick Rod and Gun Club has been sponsoring this event for many years, because it teaches the children and parents respect for the environment. It is a healthy sport and it is a chance for children and their parents to spend quality time together. The club is grateful to the Baird Family for allowing us to stage this event on their farm. In addition to the Baird Family, we would like to thank the following local businesses who donated generously to make this project a success.
