An invitation from Sustainable Warwick

Since the Real Estate Transfer Tax vote several years ago, a new group formed called Sustainable Warwick. This group of perhaps eight wasn’t sure the direction Sustainable Warwick should take, but it was clear that brainstorming about the quality of life in the Town of Warwick would develop into projects involving the community in issues pertaining sustainability. Reducing our carbon footprint was one and it is ongoing - from reducing plastic bags when shopping, to the 10% challenge the community has taken on including “Energize Warwick.” The garden at the Community Center has developed into an orchard as well and has stimulated other groups to form gardens - a victory for everyone. Recently, the New York/New Jersey Appalachian Trail group has come to Sustainable Warwick meetings to stress how important the trail is to Warwick and how the community can get involved with the upkeep within the town. And speaking of trails, the bike paths or “Stroll and Roll Paths” are being revisited. Several individuals from Sustainable Warwick also are on the Mid-Orange Committee and will be reporting on the outcome of the visioning program. We invite any people who have an interest in the sustainability of our amazing, beautiful and energized town to come to our meetings. Sustainable Warwick is under the umbrella of Community 2000, a 501(c)3 not for profit organization. The group meets every other week, beginning again on Jan. 6 at 9 a.m. in the Warwick Town Hall and then Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 7 p.m. also in the Town Hall.
