An idea worth resurrecting'
To the editor: In some ways I’m sorry to see the referendum to unite Warwick and Greenwood Lake in a single high school defeated, but I can’t say I’m surprised. The plan only made sense if school enrollments are about to drop substantially. If they drop, then economies of scale should actually save money for current residents of the Warwick School District. If they didn’t drop, it could become a disaster. So passing the referendum would have required convincing people that this drop was about to happen. After a long period of dramatic growth, with houses going up all over town, I can’t blame people for being skeptical about this projected big drop. But I hope this won’t be the end of this potentially good idea. Let’s see if in fact the projections turn out to be true. If they are, and we can get a better sense of how much this plan might actually save us in school taxes, then maybe this is an idea worth resurrecting. Bob McGrath Warwick
