Acting locally
To the editor: I admit it - I am hopelessly concerned about our planet. I know that keeping our roadsides clean is really not related to the big issues-global warming, air and water pollution, sustainability. But somehow I get confused. When I see lots of trash accumulating on our roads, I get a little frantic. My family worries about me. I rant and rave. It’s not much prettier than garbage. So every year, I participate in Town Cleanup. And toward that end, I want to thank the Chamber for organizing that important event. And I want to thank my neighbor, who with his son, did more than half of our chosen area. It looks great, but already, new trash is appearing. So, I’d like to ask everyone in the Warwick community to be a little more aware and active. Please. Don’t litter. Ever. But even if you never throw anything out your car window, I’m suggesting you help. Every week, on the day of your trash pick-up, check the area between your house and the one to the left and to the right of you. Pick up the trash even if it’s not yours. Pick up the beer cans even if you don’t drink beer, the McDonald’s bags even if you don’t eat fast food. The time it will take and the monetary cost will be minimal. And you can imagine, like I do (okay it’s a little psychotic) that you are doing something about global warming and the health of the ozone layer. Thanks and happy spring.
