‘A shame we can't feel safe anymore'

To the editor: Attention Village of Florida residents: I’ve been a resident of the Village of Florida for more than 45 years and I’m appalled at the mere thought of what my community is becoming. Almost three months ago about 20 families woke up to find flat tires on the cars in their yards. Upon examination it was determined that in every case the sidewalls of these flat tires were stabbed with a sharp object. The police were alerted; they answered the calls and took reports. To date, no arrests have been made and we are unaware of any leads. I’m sure none of the families vandalized needed the extra expense of buying new tires and I can’t believe we all just adapted ourselves to the attitude that we needed new tires anyway. Are we all supposed to just forget about this? Why would 1 someone do this? Was it a bunch of kids on a so-called fun spree? Well, I don’t see anything funny about it and I would like to be reimbursed for the new tires. Our insurance didn’t pay for them. Did yours? It’s a shame we can’t feel safe anymore in our own backyards. Why haven’t the police followed up with us? Officially, maybe it never happened? I’d appreciate any comments on this matter from those Village of Florida residents also affected. Rosemarie Schreibeis Florida
