A lack of trust'
To the editor: I don’t understand why a school superintendent still scratches his head in wonder as to “why” the taxpayers keep voting no on issues pertaining to this district. Why is it so hard to figure out that there is a huge lack of trust with the taxpayers and the school administration, including the school board? Here is a new superintendent, for the first time ever in the history of Warwick, telling the taxpayers that he “found” $3M in surplus. Where did he find it, hanging from one of the trees on the school property? Still, in finding this money a while ago, the school board has the audacity to put up for vote a school budget with an increase to it. I find that just true to the nature of things that the school administration doesn’t give a damn about the taxpayers. This money should be returned to the taxpayers, not put in a fund for a rainy day. The continued threats that the students won’t get the “extras” out of an austerity budget have been a bunch of lies. The students don’t go without anything. We don’t need new buses every year, but yet for some reason they are voted in. We could have bought them with the $3M “lotto” that was found, right? But now this money will “supposedly” go toward building repairs and probably repairs from any other “riots” that happen in school. Well, this is all another way of putting unnecessary expense on us. I think it’s time we hold this administration accountable for where this budget money really goes. I think it’s time we called in state auditors to audit the books once a month so that we know where our money is going and how it is really being spent. I am tired of the incompetent people in charge, whom we vote in, who aren’t making sure our money is not being wasted. So here is the reason why the taxpayers keep voting no: Lack of trust. I will never vote yes to another school budget that has an increase attached to it since they can “find” money if they look hard enough. I’m still scratching my head wondering, how do you just find $3M? Joanne Pascal Warwick
