Zone in on Route 94

Residents will have their say Jan. 26 on zone changes to commercial district Warwick - The Town of Warwick wants to hear residents’ suggestions on the commercial corridor along Route 94. Supervisor Michael Sweeton said that when the town rethought its zoning in 2002, this area, a stretch of about half a mile along Route 94 from the bowling alley to the proposed Fairgrounds project, was not addressed. Now, the town wants to look at this commercial area and ultimately create a generic environmental impact statement for the area. “We should take a look at it before it develops under the old code,” said Sweeton. “We want to bring it into compliance with the town’s Comprehensive Plan.” The Fairgrounds project, the proposed new home for Country Chevrolet and a supermarket, is the only active project in the area, according to Sweeton. But any others that come before the town will probably face the same fish and wildlife issues that the Fairgrounds faced. And there is always traffic. “Traffic will continue to increase in the area,” Sweeton said. “I don’t think anyone is interested in widening Route 94. We want to make this better.” The scoping session is set for Thursday, Jan. 26, at 6:30 p.m.
