WVHS grad earns national honors

Warwick - Brianna Horton, a 2005 graduate of Warwick Valley High School, was inducted into the Hofstra University chapter of the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society on Oct. 17 at a ceremony held at the university’s campus on Long Island. The goal of Phi Eta Sigma is to encourage and reward academic excellence among students in institutions of higher learning. In order to get inducted to this honor society, a student must attain a grade point average of more than 3.5; Horton attained a 3.75 during her first and second semesters at Hofstra. She has a dual major: Elementary Education and English with a specialization in American Literature. She will be graduating in May 2008, a year ahead of schedule, due to obtaining 21 college credits in her senior year while in the New Visions Program at Warwick High School and continuing to take classes at Hofstra during the winter and summer breaks. Horton also is a member of the Warwick Volunteer Ambulance Corps. She is the daughter of Robin and John Schamarek and the late Bob Horton.
