WTBQ sponsors book drive for library in African village

WARWICK - Through a team effort by the “Teen Talk Show” on Warwick Radio WTBQ (1110 AM/99.1) and the Family Empowerment Council’s Youth Advisory Board, children in Ajumako, a village in Ghana, Africa, will soon have more books for their new library. So far, the “Teen Talk Show” has received book donations from New York Assemblywoman Annie Rabbitt’s office, Dr. Tom Littner, Frank “Uncle Buck” Pileggi and the show’s hosts, among others. The books will be shipped to the African village to help encourage its children to read and further their academic skills. English is the official language of the country and a core subject taught in the schools. Ajumako residents derive their main income from farming. It is a poor area that desperately needs major development and its leaders have decided to appeal to the world for support to build new facilities including a school, hospital and a library. “We’re always pleased when we can make our station facilities available for a worthy cause,” said General Manager Frank Truatt. “And we’re grateful to our listeners for their support.” Anyone wishing to donate children’s books are asked to drop them off before April 25 at the WTBQ studios, 87 Ronald Reagan Blvd., in Warwick.
