WARWICK — St. Anthony Community Hospital has announced the addition of Antepartum Testing Services at its Women’s Imaging Center, making St. Anthony’s is the first hospital in Orange County to provide an ante natal testing unit. The Women’s Imaging Center, which opened in 2005, is located on Ronald Reagan Blvd., Warwick. The community location, which offers a host of comprehensive detection services for both men and women, offers prenatal tests that include ultrasound examinations, non-stress tests and biophysical profiles. “We’re meeting the needs of our prenatal patients,” said Ultra Sound Supervisor Marie Farina. “The Women’s Imaging Center offers a pleasant and quiet environment and an opportunity to schedule all your tests back to back on the same day.” Antenatal testing includes any diagnostic procedures performed before the birth of a baby, which are essential for protecting the health of a pregnant woman and her developing child. “We’re the only department in medicine that can’t see our patient, the baby,” said Diane De Freest, St. Anthony Community Hospital’s maternity consultant and OB/GYN nurse manager. She explained that is why in the third trimester of pregnancy, doctors often request a biophysical profile to determine the health and well being of the baby. This exam includes a detailed ultrasound and non-stress test to observe the baby’s body movements, muscle tone, breathing movements and the amount of amniotic fluid. The test also determines the heart rate and the acceleration of that rate. The Women’s Imaging Center uses General Electric’s LOGIQ 9 ultrasound system, the latest in diagnostic equipment. “Our new GE ultra sound equipment provides us with superb image quality along with many innovative tools and features that help us obtain the best possible results for our patients and their physicians,” observed Farina. The Women’s Imaging Center’s staff consists of a specially trained team of experienced, board-certified radiologists and mammography technicians, with advanced certification from the American Association of Radiology Technicians. A woman’s health consultant and maternity consultant are also available, in person or by phone. Staff members will work closely with referring physicians to ensure seamless patient care.
