Warwick - Warwick Women in Black held a vigil for peace on Main Street in Warwick on Saturday, Nov. 10. “This weekend we remember the sacrifices of all veterans especially the many thousands who have been injured while serving in Iraq,” said Suzy Stage, a spokesperson for the group. “We hope this war will end soon and the troops will be able to return home to their families.” The group of vigilers were met with many approving thumbs up and peace signs from passing motorists. Many gave a cheerful toot of the horn to show their agreement. One man rode his bike up and spoke to the group. “I have three sons,” he said, holding up his fingers to check them off. “One is in Afghanistan. One has just come back from Iraq, and the other is just going to Iraq. “I am against this war,” he said, “and I’m angry about it.” As he cycled away several of the vigilers called after him, “God Bless you and your sons.” Women in Black will hold its next vigil on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 1 p.m. outside Lewis Park on Main Street on Warwick. “On that day,” said Stage, “we will be thinking about the many victims of the bombing of Pearl Harbor 66 years ago and hoping that someday we will see peace in our time.”
