Warwick — Warwick is getting a new library. By a margin of 236 votes, voters in the Warwick ValleySchool District gave their approval to build a new library at a cost of $8.5 million. The totals were 1,412 yes votes to 1,176 no. “Thank you so much,” Library Director Rosemary Cooper said Thursday night after the polls closed. “We are very appreciative. This is an historic moment for us. We have spent 80 years in the same building. This is something that doesn’t happen every year like other votes. It is a big step forward for the library and the community.” The new library will move forward now, after years in the preliminary stages of planning. With donated land, grants, and private gifts dependent on the outcome of this referendum, the process to actually build the library will now proceed. Cooper said the new library could possibly be completed by spring 2009. The Warwick Advertiser will have more on what's next in its March 16 edition.
