Warwick Valley Humane Society will sponsor spay/neuter clinic for cats

If you feed them please fix them, Humane Society says Warwick - Next Saturday, Oct. 13, the Warwick Valley Humane Society will play host to The Animal Rights Alliance (T.A.R.A.) spay/neuter mobile clinic. The mobile unit will be stationed at the Society’s Animal Shelter just off King’s Highway and will provide low cost spay/neuter services for cats and kittens four months old or older. The program for that day is limited to 50 cats with a maximum of 25 females. To prepare for the procedure the cats may drink water but should not be given food after midnight. They should be dropped off early in the morning and can be picked up that same afternoon. The fee is $60, but the towns of Warwick and Chester offer reimbursement of $50 towards the expense of neutering to the caregiver who is a resident of one of those towns and who presents a proof-of-spay/neuter certificate. The Warwick Valley Humane Society manages the funds for the two towns. The Humane Society also recently held a rabies clinic for both cats and dogs at its shelter. “Both rabies vaccinations and spaying/neutering,” said Suzyn Barron, president of the Warwick Valley Humane Society, “address, for obvious reasons, important community health issues as well as the problem of overpopulation and nuisance strays.” All proceeds from these public service events are used to help support the homeless pets at the Animal Shelter. Funds are needed for normal operating expenses including electricity, gas, fuel costs and so forth as well as medical care. Donations of canned kitten food, cat litter, bleach, canned dog food, cleaning solutions and laundry detergent are also accepted.
