Warwick Valley High School senior meets with leaders in Washington, D.C.

Warwick This past summer, Kayleigh Maher, a senior at Warwick High School, participated in the National Young Leaders Conference. The 10-day program provides selected students with the opportunity to interact with a variety of personnel who operate within the three branches of government, the news media and the international community. In addition to attending special meetings and briefings, students participated in a number of leadership skill-building activities and simulations to help prepare them for public service and to become active members within the communities in which they live. The Conference culminated with the Model Congress, in which student scholars assume the roles of US Representatives, and debate, amend, and vote on proposed mock legislation. The Congressional Youth Leadership Council is a non-profit educational organization established in 1985 to work with selected students to help them achieve their full leadership potential. Kayleigh is also a scholar-athlete and member of the National Society of High School Scholars and Who’s Who Among American High School Students.
