Warwick trumpeter performs March 16 with SUNY Orchestra

Warwick Valley High School junior James Rose, the recent winner of SUNY Orange’s sixth annual concerto/aria contest, will perform with the SUNY Orange Community Orchestra during its upcoming concert on Sunday, March 16 at 3 p.m. in Middletown’s historic Paramount Theater. The concert is the second of three scheduled performances during this academic year as the orchestra celebrates its 10 season. The 60-member orchestra is under the direction of Dr. Hilarie Clark Moore and is comprised of SUNY Orange students as well as county residents. Rose, who has studied trumpet for nine years, will perform the first movement of Haydn’s “Trumpet Concerto in Eb Major.” At Warwick Valley High School, Rose performs with the wind ensemble, concert band, pep band, pit orchestra and jazz ensemble. In addition to working with private teacher Eric Parks and Warwick band director Chris Persad, Rose’s training includes summers with the Crane Youth Music Program and other music camps. He has attended master classes with the New York Philharmonic’s principal trumpet player, Philip Smith, as well as with Dr. John Ellis, trumpet teacher at the Crane School of Music. Tickets are $5.
