Warwick — Warwick Police Sgt. Chris Cockburn and Officer Alton Morley received a community service award last month from Occupations, Inc., for providing training for the Orange County Mobile Mental Health Team. That team comes into the community to do emergency assessments of people who may require psychiatric counseling. Often these people can be violent or possess weapons. Cockburn and Morley gave a different perspective to the Mental Health Team about how to conduct themselves safely when confronting these individuals if a police officer is not present. Most times an officer will be with them to assist, said Chief Thomas McGovern. Supervisor Michael Sweeton and Councilman Floyd DeAngelo were present with McGovern at the Occupations, Inc. ceremony that honored the Warwick officers. “We are very proud of our police department and the contributions they make,” said Sweeton.
