Warwick Lions Club honors three

Warwick - At a recognition dinner held at the Warwick County Club on Thursday evening, May 25, The Warwick Lions Club honored three local citizens with special awards. Mayor Michael J. Newhard and Lion Calixto J. Bulnes each received the prestigious Robert J. Uplinger Distinguished Service Award for their contributions to the organization and community. Lion Linda Lisi was the recipient of the Melvin Jones award. The Robert J. Uplinger Distinguished Service Award is given to outstanding Lions and non-Lions who perform exemplary service to their club and/or community. “These honorees,” said Douglas Stage, past president of the Warwick Lions and chairman of the event, “possess the highest examples of Lionistic character, ideals, purpose and service.” The Melvin Jones Fellowship Award is the highest award that can be bestowed upon a Lion. “Even though Lion Linda has only been part of our organization for a relatively short period of time,” said Stage, “she has exemplified the true spirit of Lionism by vigorously chairing projects, helping out in any manner she can, aiding any sick or injured Lions and spreading the good of Lionism throughout the community.” During the evening, Deputy Mayor Roger Metzger also presented Newhard with a Certificate of Recognition on behalf of the Village Board of Trustees and in conjunction with the Warwick Lions Club for the Mayor’s numerous achievements while serving the community. “I’m surrounded by great men and great women,” said Newhard. “And my family is a remarkable group of individuals. They’ve all given me whatever support and encouragement I ever needed.”
