Warwick Humane Society honors and thanks Ali Norden

WARWICK - On Tuesday, Dec. 11, the Warwick Valley Humane Society presented Ali Norden, wife of Bob Norden, with a memorial plaque in honor of the generous donation she gave to the Humane Society in memory of her husband. The $5,375 will be used for the animal shelter’s pole barn fund. Bob Norden, known as a true animal lover, was a volunteer firefighter and lieutenant with the Warwick Fire Police. He passed away Sept. 26, 2005. The memorial plaque reads: “With heartfelt appreciation for his loyal, friendship and generous support of the Warwick Valley Humane Society and his profound love of all animals.” The 24 x 36-foot pole barn was erected as emergency housing for pets in the case of a disaster or cruelty case, for fundraisers and for dog training. It can also be used for lectures and tours. The pole barn currently is sheltering an injured hawk, an injured seagull and four rabbits. When the pole barn was first under construction in 2005, the Humane Society received a $15,000 grant from New York State Agriculture and Markets through state Sen. Thomas Morahan, R-C-New City, and a $10,000 grant from the Warwick Savings Bank Foundation. “And we also received a $1,500 grant from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals,” said Suzyn Barron, president of the Warwick Valley Humane Society. Although the society had also received additional private donations, the funds were short of what was needed to complete the project and a pole barn fund was established.
