Warwick - The Warwick Conservancy’s first-ever award for outstanding public service in conservation will be presented to Jay Beaumont, former head of the Orange County Water Authority who is currently with Baker Engineering. “We’ve never given an award before, but Jay’s efforts in identifying local water resources and raising the public’s awareness as to their location and sustainability have made recognizing his work a requirement,” said Dr. Richard Hull, an advisor to the Conservancy. “This public recognition of his hard work we hope will not only reward him for an excellent job, but continue the process of education about our natural resources.” Hull will be the moderator at the Community Water Forum where the award will be presented on Wednesday evening, Oct. 11, at the Florida Senior Citizens’ Center. The forum, sponsored by the Warwick Conservancy and the Town of Warwick Conservation Board, will host expert panelists, including Beaumont, who will discuss water resources and the challenges facing their use. The other participants are Simon Gruber, an independent environmental planner and consulting project manager to The Orange County Water Authority; Eric Hince of Geovation Consultants, who holds a graduate degree in marine environmental sciences and is a licensed geologist and hydrogeologist; and Dr. Bill Olsen, assistant professor of Biology at Ramapo College and the former Manager of Biotechnology Research at International Paper. The forum is open to the public and will begin at 7:30 p.m. Panelists will make presentations and take questions from the audience.
