Warwick cellist chosen for prestigious School of Orchestral Studies

Sugar Loaf - Warwick Valley High School student Lindsay Theodore of Sugar Loaf has been accepted into the 2007 School of Orchestral Studies of the New York State Summer School of the Arts. A cellist, Lindsay also was selected as the 2007 recipient of the Mary Catherine Hobbs Scholarship. The School of Orchestral Studies, comprised of 115 musically gifted students from throughout New York, hold its four-week program from July 22 through Aug. 18th on the campus of Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs. Russell Stanger, conductor laureate of the Virginia Philharmonic and former assistant conductor of the New York Philharmonic under Leonard Bernstein, is serving as artistic director. The curriculum covers every aspect of orchestral playing as well as string orchestra performances and chamber music ensembles. All participants also attend the rehearsals and concerts of the Philadelphia Orchestra, which is in summer residence at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. The School of Orchestral Studies will perform in Albany on Tuesday, Aug. 7, in West Capital Park at noon and in Round Lake Auditorium at 8 p.m. The final concert will be given at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center on Aug. 18 at 2 p.m. Lindsay, 15, is the daughter of Cynthia and Nicholas Theodore of Sugar Loaf. She will enter her junior year at Warwick Valley High School in September.
