Wanted: Fourth-grade artists - Prizes to be awarded on June 8

    Goshen — Get out the poster paints and markers. The annual Orange County Day art competition for fourth grade students has begun for all schools in the county. This year’s theme is “Native American Tribes and the Early Settlers of the Hudson River Valley.” Fourth grade teachers in Orange County are asked to submit original artwork from their students depicting people, places, or artifacts of historical interest in keeping with the theme. Students are encouraged to depict life and events associated with the historical beginnings of Orange County in 1683. Entries will be displayed in the 1841 Courthouse in Goshen. Contest winners will be announced there on Orange County Day, Sunday, June 8 at an awards ceremony for the students, teachers, and the public. Contest rules are available from Mary Ellen Matise at 778-1369. Deadline to receive artwork is Tuesday, May 13. Orange County Day is celebrated annually to foster a greater appreciation of the beauty and resources of the county. It is sponsored by Orange County Government.
