Village reorganizes with little change
New trustee takes her seat Warwick Warwick Mayor Michael Newhard was sworn into office for a third time Monday night, after running uncontested just two weeks ago. Trustee George McManus started his second term, garnering the most votes in the three-way trustee race. Their new colleague on the board, Eileen Patterson, took her oath with her husband and three children looking on. Then it was down to business for the Village Board, although it was a brief agenda. Newhard read a letter from former trustee Stephen L. Pascal, thanking the residents for their support through his three-year term. As it always does the first Monday in April, the board went about its business of reorganizing. Official appointments were made for positions such as village attorney, special counsel, deputy mayor, recreation director, shade tree commissioner and official banks. Newhard also doled out to the board their individual responsibilities. McManus will serve as liaison to the library, the Warwick Valley School District, police, the Ethics Board, cable television and issues of emergency and security. Patterson will oversee the parks and recreation area, senior citizens, the Jones Chemical Citizens Advisory Panel, the Warwick Youth Development Outreach program, the Warwick Valley Community Center and a new area sidewalks, crosswalks and pedestrian issues. Trustee Bill Iurato will serve as liaison to the merchants, Department of Public Works, water and sewer, concerts and celebrations, office staff, traffic and parking, the Weekender bus and transportation issues. Trustee Roger Metzger will begin his 40th year on the Shade Tree Commission and will serve once again as its liaison for the board. The former Planning Board chairman will also oversee planning and zoning issues, Bon Secour, the Chamber of Commerce and Partnership for Quality Community Committee.
