Warwick — Municipal leaders across the state can now know just what makes the Village of Warwick tick. The New York Conference of Mayors Bulletin, published bi-monthly, selected the Village of Warwick as its municipal Spotlight location. The two-page spread in the September/October issue includes the history of the village, pictures from throughout the village and of Mayor Michael Newhard, and some interesting facts. Newhard said he was contacted by Bulletin editors and asked if they could use Warwick for their Spotlight, a regular feature in the magazine. Newhard, of course, said yes. The article goes back to Warwick’s earliest history, when the Minsi tribe settled along the banks of the Wawayanda stream and tributaries. “The main roads that lead through modern day Warwick are the same roads established three centuries ago. These roads were part of a connective link for both native Americans and early European traders,” says the article. The article speaks to the village’s identity and how leaders of both the village and town have worked together to preserve open space and embrace rural values. The Bulletin is distributed only to municipal leaders so villagers can’t have their own copies. Newhard said copies will be made available at the library for residents to view.
