    Warwick - The following summarizes some accomplishments and upcoming events within the Warwick Valley School District: Warwick Valley School District • Elementary and Middle schools will have a half day on May 4 with MS students dismissed at 10:55 a.m. and elementary students at 11:45 a.m. • All students will have a half day on May 11 with High School students dismissed at 10:05 a.m., Middle School students at 10:55 a.m., and elementary students at 11:45 a.m. • Schools will be closed in observation of Memorial Day on May 28. • The Board of Education budget hearing will be held May 7 at 7 p.m., with a regular meeting to follow. The PTA Council encourages all taxpayers to attend. • May 8th is the last day for Walk-in Registration for the School Budget vote. • School Budget Vote will be held on May 15, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Dorothy Wilson Education Center at the MS, Kings Elementary School and Pine Island Elementary School. • New York State science exams will be administered to fourth grade students the week of April 30th and various AP exams are scheduled for the first two weeks of May (check the district calendar for specific dates). Parents should be sure that their children have a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast to do their best on the tests. • Elementary Arts and Jam Festival will be held at the Dorothy C. Wilson Education Center on May 3, 7-9 p.m. • Fifth grade MS Parent Orientation will be held at the MS on May 8 at 7 p.m. Warwick Valley High School: Thirty-three students will be inducted into the National Honor Society on May 2 at a ceremony at the High School. The National Honor Society is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students across the country. More than just an honor roll, the National Honor Society serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, Leadership, service, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since is beginnings in 1921. • The High School Band Concert will be held on May 14 in the High School Auditorium at 7 p.m. and the Spring Concert will be held in the High School Auditorium on May 21 at 7 p.m. • The High School Spring Choral Concert will be held in the High School Auditorium on May 10 at 7:30 p.m. • The High School Interact Talent Show will be held in the High School Auditorium on May 22 at 7 p.m. • The Freshman Formal will be held May 18 from 7:30-11 p.m. • The next PTSA meeting is scheduled for May 17 at 7 p.m. • High School daily announcements can be reviewed on the district Web site (www.warwickvalleyschools.com) by clicking onto “our schools” and scrolling to the High School and then “Announcements.” Warwick Valley Middle School: • Students continue to follow the examples of Principal Kolesar’s lessons of character and responsibility, and collected clothing and other items for needy families and delivered their “Baskets of Joy” throughout the community. • Middle School Spring Concerts will be held May 16, May 23 and May 30 in the High School Auditorium at 7 p.m. • Thanks to the PTA, the seventh graders will be treated to an assembly on April 27 featuring Little Toby Walker, a renowned blues guitarist. • The PTA is sponsoring a Bowling Night fund raiser for Saturday, April 28, from 7-9 at Frontier Lanes. It is open to the entire school, Middle School students only. The cost is $18 for two games, shoes, snacks, with DJ entertainment.    • Mother’s Day Plant sale (for students only) will be held on May 10 during school. • Elections will be held at the PTA meeting on May 8 at 7 p.m. All current board members will be running for another term. Nominations for board positions can be submitted to the Middle School office. Park Avenue Elementary School • Mother’s Day-Father’s Day Bazaar is April 30-May 1. • Park Ave Staff Appreciation Day is May 2. The PTA and students have a great surprise for the teachers this year. • The PTA is inviting all Park Ave families to the Bellevale Creamery May 3 for an ice-cream fund raiser. A portion of the profits will benefit our school.  Stop by before heading to the Arts & Jam festival. • Spring Scholastic Book Sale is the week of May 7.  It’s a “Buy one, get one free” sale. • Kinderfest will be held in the High School gym on May 2 at 7 p.m. Pine Island Elementary School • On April 30 the PTA will hold an ice cream social and fund raiser at Bellvale Creamery. Come see your favorite teachers SCOOP. • The Drama Club will present “Rumpus in the Rainforest” on May 9 and May 10. Call the school office for tickets and performance times. • Family portraits are scheduled for May 19; look for notices to come home with students for further information. • The PTA is sponsoring a Mother’s Day plant sale with the assistance of Scheurmann Farms at the school on May 10 from 2-5 p.m. • Moving up is going as planned with a special surprise planned with High School seniors who are Pine Island alumni. • Teaching our children to say “thank you,” Staff Appreciation is scheduled for May 18. Kings Elementary School • The Dream Flag Project will take place at Kings Elementary Outdoor Learning Area. The teachers introduced some Langston Hughes’ “Dream Poems” to their students.  Then the children responded by writing about their personal dreams for the world.  The flags were hung so the public can come and read them. The Project was introduced by Ms. Reinhardt as an art-poetry -nature connection.  This project has just been awarded an Orange Arts Grant from Orange Arts. There are almost five hundred flags hanging. • All third, fourth and fifth graders just completed the Student Council’s annual Map-A-Thon. Students study and learn where countries are located all over the world.  • The destination of the third graders’ field trip: the Museum of Natural History. • Kings “Scoop It Up” Night at the Bellvale Creamery will be held April 26. • Students in all grades have been learning about animals, invertebrates and reptiles through visits from Pat’s Pals.  • The next PTA meeting will be held May 1st at 7:30 p.m. Sanfordville Elementary School • Sanfordville Staff Appreciation Day will be held May 18. • The Kindergarten classes will hold a concert on May 31 in the High School Auditorium at 7 p.m. • The next PTA meeting is May 10th at 7 p.m. Information about schools is available at the district Web site (www.warwickvalleyschools.com) and by joining any of the PTAs.
