Upcoming events in January in Warwick schools

    Warwick - The true reason for the season can be found in the numerous charitable outreach activities undertaken by various groups and clubs in all of the Warwick Valley School District. So as the Hanukkah and Christmas celebrations reach their peak and the New Year approaches, the Warwick Valley School District PTA Council wish all a special time with family and friends and success and good things in 2007. Please note your January calendar with these upcoming school events that bring the promise of a busy and fulfilling start to the New Year. Warwick Valley School District • Schools are closed Dec. 25 - Jan. 1 and then closed on Jan. 15 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. • The next Board of Education meeting is Jan. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Park Avenue Elementary School. • N.Y.S. English Language Arts Testing will be held the week of Jan. 8 for grades 3, 4 and 5 and the week of Jan. 15 for grades 6, 7 and 8. • Partners in Education orientation will be held on Jan. 3 at the District Office at 7 p.m. • Second marking period ends Jan. 26. Warwick Valley High School • College financial aid planning night will be held Jan. 23 at the high school. • Mid-term exams run from Jan. 22-26; Regents exams will be held on Jan 23-26. • Nominations for incoming National Honor Society candidates with superior academics and community service will be finalized during the month of January, with letters to prospective candidates being sent out early February. • Coming off a successful run of its presentation of “Aladdin,” the Warwick Valley High School Drama Club will begin preparations for its spring presentation of the musical, “Annie Get Your Gun.” • Students who are 16 and have their learner’s permit by Jan. 26 are eligible to enroll in the spring session of Driver’s Education. The cost is $300 and applications are available on a first-come, first-serve basis at the Guidance Office on Jan. 8. • High School daily announcements can be reviewed on the district Web site (www.warwickvalleyschools.com) by clicking onto “our schools” and scrolling to the High School and then “Announcements.” • The next PTSA meeting is Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. Warwick Valley Middle School • There will be a PTA dance for grades to be announced on Jan. 12 from 7-9 p.m. • Music fills the hallways as the Jazz Band, Chamber Choir and Guitar Club begin preparations for spring showcases. • The next “Coffee Chat” with Principal John J. Kolesar Jr. will be held on Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. • Middle School daily announcements and newsletters can be reviewed on the district Web site (www.warwickvalleyschools.com) by clicking onto “our schools” and scrolling to the Middle School and then “Announcements.” • The next PTA meeting will be held Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. Park Avenue Elementary School • Park Avenue student showed their generosity providing donations to the Warwick Food Pantry and making the holidays special for many families in need. Monthly donations are continued throughout the year and collected the last Friday of every month, including Jan. 26. • Our future scientists share their discoveries at the annual Science Fair to be held on Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. • The Park Avenue Musical Festival, showcasing the musical talents of the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students, will be held Jan. 25 at the High School Auditorium. • The next Park Avenue PTA meeting will be held Jan. 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the school library. Pine Island Elementary School • Come out from the winter doldrums and enjoy some family fun at the Pine Island Family Fun Night on Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. • Pine Island students raised $100 just through the sale of Market Day pies which they donated to the Warwick Food Pantry. • PARP and plans for 5th Grade Moving Up Day are underway. Anyone interested in participating is encouraged to contact the PTA. • The next PTA meeting is Jan. 2 at 7:30 p.m. Kings Elementary School • Enjoy some competitive down time with friends and family at the King’s Family Bingo Nights to be held Friday, Jan. 5 and 12 at 7 p.m. • The next PTA meeting is Jan. 2 at 7:30 p.m. Sanfordville Elementary School • The annual Science Fair to be held on Jan. 17 (A-L) and 18 (M-Z) at 7 p.m. • The 3rd grade Choral Concert will be held on Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. at the High School Auditorium. • The next PTA meeting is Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. Information about all Warwick Valley schools is available at the district’s Web site (www.warwickvalleyschools.com) and by joining any of the PTAs.
