Goshen — A tractor-trailer struck a utility pole in Goshen last Saturday, causing a power line transformer to fall on the roof of the trailer and causing it to catch fire. The trailer and its cargo of thousands of pounds of potatoes were completely destroyed, according to a report by the Town of Goshen Police Department, which investigated the accident. It happened at the intersection of Route 17A and Pulaski Highway at about 7:30 a.m. The driver, Dwayne Hamilton, 28, of Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada, managed to remove the tractor before that too caught fire. The truck operator and a passenger managed to escape without injury, police said. Personnel from the New York State Police, the Goshen Fire Department, Orange and Rockland Utilities, and Time Warner Cable assisted the town police at the scene. Route 17A was closed for several hours for cleanup and removal of the vehicle.
